Council Chairman Reaffirms Commitment to Safety and Stability



The Executive Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Simon Dominic, on February 11, 2025, hosted the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, who was on official visit to the area as part of his security tour across the state’s local government areas.



Welcoming the Commissioner and his entourage, Rt. Hon. Simon Dominic expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that Obot Akara, being a boundary local government area with Abia State, occupies a strategic location that makes it a critical security flashpoint, necessitating adequate policing.



He commended His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, for prioritizing security under the ARISE Agenda, pledging to align the local government’s policies with the state’s vision for peace and stability.



The Council Chairman informed the Commissioner of Police about an impending boundary disputes within the area and highlighted the proactive steps taken by the local government in collaboration with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obot Akara to de-escalate tensions and restore harmony.



He further advocated for the reactivation of police posts and sub-stations in key locations across the LGA to enhance security and prevent cross-border criminal activities.



To support the police in their operations, Rt. Hon. Simon Dominic pledged continuous assistance to the Divisional Police Headquarters, emphasizing his administration’s strong dedication to fostering a secure and peaceful Obot Akara.



He lauded the DPO of Obot Akara Division for his proactive leadership and urged the Commissioner of Police to provide additional reinforcements to address lingering security concerns in the area.



Responding, CP Baba Mohammed Azare expressed satisfaction with the warm reception and commended the Council Chairman for his efforts in maintaining peace and security within the local government.



He acknowledged Obot Akara’s economic and agricultural significance to Akwa Ibom State, stressing that sustainable development is only possible in a peaceful environment.



The Police Commissioner called for the establishment of village youth policing and assured the local government of the police command’s continued partnership.



While pledging to work closely with local authorities and community stakeholders to enhance security efforts, resolve conflicts, and foster a safer society, he further approved the establishment of another police post at the Local Government headquarters.



The visit featured a Town Hall Meeting with youths, women, and community leaders, providing a platform for dialogue on pressing security concerns and community policing strategies.



The Commissioner and his team also conducted an inspection of the Obot Akara security estate, which was recently gutted by fire.


The Commissioner of Police was received by key government officials and stakeholders, including: the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Mercy Leo Okure, Secretary of Council, Comrade Joseph C. Akpan, Leader of Obot Akara Legislative Council, Hon. Enyiekpon Okon Nta, HSA to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Barr. Cosmas Udoette, Supervisors, Councilors, PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon. Imo Esu, DG of AMAZING GRACE CAMPAIGN COUNCIL, Engr. Bassey Ntuen, Political Ward leaders, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, Comrade Ubong Constance, Personal Assistants to the Governor on Youth Matters, Comrade Amama Aloysius and Mr. Ubong Sam, Ward Personal Assistants to the Governor, Directors among others.


The visit reinforced the commitment of both the state police command and the local government to collaborative security efforts, ensuring peace, stability, and continued development in Obot Akara.
