Receives 113 Bids for 75 jobs in open tender
Contractors in Akwa Ibom State have been given three months to complete intervention projects executed through the State Universal Basic Education Programme, SUBEB.
The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk stated this while declaring open, the bid for the Universal Basic Education UBE intervention projects.
According to Mr Etuk,"that the State government has paid its 2024 counterpart funding".
"The Government of Pastor Umo Eno has invested so much to ensure we have a conductive environment for our children and teachers. Today we are here yet again to do a similar excerise to ensure that we get our contractors to go to the field to see that we touch those places that should be touched like construction of new buildings, renovation of old ones, drilling of boreholes"
"Contractors who are fortunate to win the bids should go to the field and finish within 3 monts. Take your contracts seriously because we want to see results".
"Every year Government spends millions of naira to provide for school buildings and seats in our various communities. It is disappointing that people will go to the level of removing the roofs and seats".
"I want to use this opportunity to appeal to our youths to protect what is provided for us by the Government. No one will come from anywhere to destroy what is in our community, why do we allow our sons to do evil by destroying what is provided for our children. We should all rise up in our communities to see that it is stopped".
"If the State Government can provide this much, I think we should not allow the bad eggs to destroy what is ours".
Also speaking the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC representative Mrs Beatrice Okoye noted that, "SUBEB under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk deserves commendation for improving the learning environment in the basic education sector with quality projects".
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Mrs Stella Etukakpan added her voice to commend the transparency in the opening of tenders.
"I'm glad to witness the opening of tenders. I commend the Chairman of SUBEB, Permanent Secretary and stakeholders for transparency".
Highpoint of the event was the Opening of tenders by Mr. NsikakAbasi Isong which featured Inspection, opening of box, accreditation of bids, opening, reading a recording of the 113 tendered documents.
Goodwill messages were received from representative of the Economic Financial crimes commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices commission (ICPC), Mr Okom John, who urged contractors to ensure they deliver to specification, standard and quality, or face the wrath of the law.
Representatives of the Nigerian Labour Congrss NLC, The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Amos Etuk, Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT also spoke at the event commending the Governor for being Education friendly by releasing the counterpart funds and operating a transparent process.
Speaking on behalf of the bidders, Pastor Isaiah Abia thanked the Governor for releasing the counterpart funding for basic education and assured that contractors who win the bid will deliver to specifications within three months.
Others who attened the event include the Governor's Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation Dr. Essien Ndueso, representatives from Ministry of Justice, representatives from Ministry of Finance.
