UYO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SCREENS SUPERVISORS AND SPECIAL ADVISERS NOMINEES FOR APPOINTMENT

 



The 8th Uyo Legislative Council during her sitting on February 6, 2025 successfully screened and confirmed sixteen nominees by the Executive Chairman for appointment as Supervisors and Special Adviser.



Recall that, the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo E. Udo , on February 3, 2025, had forwarded a list of 16 supervisor and special adviser nominees for these positions to the Legislative Council for screening and confirmation, an exercise that is part of their Legislative Functions as stipulated in section 48 (1) and 49 of the Local Government Administration Law 2017.



The Leader, Hon. Ekemini Bassey and Council members in its usual wisdom had referred the nominees to the screening committee and they were required to submit their report at plenary today. The House entered into a close door session where they resolved into the Committee of the Whole after the nominees appeared before the Council. The Legislative Council had earlier swung into action by inviting the Executive’s Nominees to appear before House for screening and confirmation.



The list of Supervisors and Special Advisers that has been screened and confirmed by the 8th Council are as follows:


1. URBAN I - Roberto Edem Emmanuel - CLEARED 

2. URBAN I - Kufre Mendie - CLEARED 

3. URBAN II - Nse Effiong Nyong - CLEARED 

4. URBAN II - Edoama Ndueso Isaiah - CLEARED 

5. URBAN III - Ubong Asuquo Utang - CLEARED 

6. ETOI I - Aniedi Ime Okon - CLEARED 

7. ETOI II - Etido Effiong Umoh - CLEARED 

8. ETOI III - Edikan Umanah Etim - CLEARED 

9. OFFOT I - Enobong Bassey Okon - CLEARED 

10. OFFOT II - Idara Akpan - CLEARED 

11. OFFOT III - Joseph Nyong - CLEARED 

12. IKONO I - Iniobong Michael Archibong - CLEARED 

13. IKONO II - Ubong Willie Akpan - CLEARED 

14. OKU I - Ekomobong Patrick Daniel - CLEARED 

15. OKU II - Praise Otuekong - CLEARED 

16. OKU III - Unyime Pius - CLEARED 


An adhoc committee for screening of the nominees duly set up for the exercise by the leader of the council, Hon. Ekemini Bassey, was headed by Hon Cyril Essien had done due diligence in vetting the credentials of these nominees. The exercise which commenced very early in the morning on Tuesday, February 6, 2025, was rounded off with a plenary session where the nominees were formally presented for transparent screening and ratification by the Legislative Council.


The Clerk of the Legislature was directed to communicate the outcome of the exercise to the Executive Chairman for further action, in accordance with the provisions of the extant Laws.


The House later adjourned its plenary to Friday, February 7, 2025.
