...As Aniekan Uko Charges The New Supervisors To Function In Their Given Portfolios
The newly sworn-in Supervisors and Special Advisers in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Council has been admonished to reciprocate the love shown to them by the people of their various wards by seeing their new offices as an opportunity to touch lives and affirm the confidence reposed on them.
Rt. Hon. (Evangelist) Edidiong Inyang, the Council boss made the plea when he swore- in the 12 Supervisors/Special Advisers at the Chairman's Conference Room on Friday 7th February, 2025.
For Inyang, being chosen among the thousands that are in a particular Ward is not an opportunity to exalt ego and pride, but rather, its an opportunity to let the people fill the pulse of government through them.
The Council boss used the opportunity to thank His Excellency the Governor for finding them worthy to serve by giving a nod to their appointment with a pointer to those sworn-in that the Governor's 2027 bid should be one paramount and cardinal task they must champion.
"As the Chairman, I must tell you that you were not the best but it is the grace of God that found you, therefore your loyalty to the government of Pastor Umo Eno is 100%.
Borrowing from the candid words of my boss, the Governor, say little and do more. Don't feel like a king in your Ward, be accessible don't say after all, I wasn't elected but appointment, because we are pursuing one goal which is governance"he adviced.
While urging the new Supervisors to respect the elders and the party, the Chairman warned the new Supervisors not to take his simplicity for granted as he will not sacrifice his new era spirit which is advancement of good governance on the altar of simplicity.
Also in his goodwill message, the Chairman thanked the political gladiators who turned out enmass to witness the event and poured his blessings on the new Supervisors /Special Advisers.
Speaking at the event, the former Speaker and the immediate past House of Assembly member representing the area, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Uko thanked the stakeholders of the various wards through the Council Chairman for the choices of the Supervisors, maintaining that in truth and fairness, they are all astute politicians who have all sacrificed for the party.
Dr. Uko, the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Affairs charged the sworn-in Supervisors to show capacity by functioning effectively in their would- be portfolios.
"As a Supervisor, you must know the nitty gritty required of your portfolio, so show capacity and be result oriented.
The New Era is a moving train and we will not be happy for you to slow track it due to your low or zero performance "he advised.
From the lawmaker point of view, the 5th and 6th Assembly legislator x-rayed the importance of Oversight Function and beckoned on them not to treat it with levity as it is the touch light of holding government accountable as well as a driving force in making sure the dreams of government is actualized.
Earlier on, the House of Assembly member representing the area, Pastor Ubong Attah thanked the Chairman for his performance so far while congratulating the new Supervisors on their emergence.
High point of the event was the official oath of office administered to the Supervisors by the Local Government Legal Adviser and Swearing- In by the Chairman.
In the spirit of love and unity of purpose, the Council boss took out time to touch down on various reception venues of the elated sworn- in Supervisors.
